A Russian warship came within 315 yards of a U.S. Navy vessel in an incident earlier this month, according to U.S. officials.

{mosads}A U.S. official said the Russian Neutrashimyy ship came dangerously close to the USS Gravely, and that the Russian vessel also deployed dangerous maneuvers, according to a report published Thursday by CNN.

“As Gravely changed course and speed, the Neustrashimyy also changed course and speed. The maneuvering demonstrates that the Neustrashimyy was not in fact restricted in her ability to maneuver, and was thus intentionally displaying a false international signal,” said a U.S. official.

The official said that during the incident, which lasted an hour, the Russian vessel displayed an international signal meant to show it was restricted in its ability to move, but then moved closer to the U.S. vessel as it asked the Gravely to maintain a safe distance.

CNN reported that U.S. officials have complained about the incident to Moscow, and have also complained about Russian allegations that it was the U.S. vessel taking unsafe actions.
