Survey: Some public support for US military action in Syria

The Pew poll notched an 18-point jump in support for U.S. military action since its December survey, when 27 percent said the U.S. should intervene before there were reports of a Syrian chemical weapon attack.

The Pew survey contacted respondents Thursday through Sunday, and the White House said it believed a chemical attack had occurred on Thursday.

While the chemical weapons reports vaulted the two-year-old Syrian conflict back to the top of the headlines, the U.S. public is still not following the story closely, the survey found.

Eighteen percent of respondents said they followed the news very closely, while 25 percent followed it fairly closely.
