The U.S.-led coalition on Saturday struck a Syrian army position, according to Syrian state media.
State media, citing a military source, reported that coalition jets attacked a Syrian army position near the battlefront against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, according to Reuters.
The attack resulted in damage as well as injuries to two soldiers, according to the Syrian media source.
“U.S. coalition aircraft launched an aggression this evening against one of the Syrian Arab army formations operating in the Albukamal area in the southeastern countryside of Deir al-Zor,” the military source told Syrian state media, according to Reuters.
A spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition told Reuters, however, that the action was taken in self-defense.
“Our partner forces were fired upon and exercised their inherent right to self defense," spokesman Col. Sean Ryan told the news service in an email.
