Ebola disrupts ExxonMobil operations
Oil and gas giant ExxonMobil said the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is disrupting some of its operations there.
At a Houston press conference, ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson did not get into many details of what Ebola means for the company.
{mosads}“We had some drilling plans for some blocks offshore West Africa in Liberia,” Tillerson said, according to Reuters.
“We are having to look at when it would be prudent to resume operations there because you do have to have shore-based support,” he said.
ExxonMobil has also prohibited employees from traveling to West Africa as a precautionary measure to avoid the virus, Tillerson told reporters.
He characterized ExxonMobil’s response to the Ebola threat as “fairly low level.”
ExxonMobil has operations in Liberia and Nigeria, two of the countries hit hardest by the recent Ebola outbreak.
