French president in Philippines for climate push

French President François Hollande kicked off his two-day trip to the Philippines Thursday to promote action in the fight against climate change.

Accompanied by two of France's leading actresses, Hollande plans to build momentum leading up to the United Nations climate meeting in Paris this year, The Guardian reports.

Actresses Marion Cotillard and Mélanie Laurent joined Hollande on the trip along with U.N. climate chief Christiana Figueres.

During his visit, Hollande will meet with Philippine President Benigno Aquino to jointly call on global leaders to make the upcoming Paris climate meeting a success.

Nearly 200 nations plan to attend the Paris meeting in December to sign an ambitious treaty aimed at slashing greenhouse gas emissions.
