Huntsman: ‘Call me crazy,’ I believe in evolution, global warming
Huntsman’s tweet will raise questions about whether he has the
conservative bona fides to win the Republican presidential nomination.
Huntsman has carved out a niche in the primary fight as a centrist, but
it is unclear whether GOP voters are looking for that in a candidate
this year.
Perry mentioned evolution during a meet-and-greet Thursday morning in
Portsmouth, N.H., while being questioned by a young boy who was prompted
by his mother to ask the governor about evolution and science.
“You know, it’s a theory that’s out there, and it’s got some gaps in it.
In Texas we teach both creationism and evolution in our public schools,”
Perry said. “Because I figure you’re smart enough to figure out which
one is right.”
Perry has also questioned the validity of global warming science while on the campaign trail.
“I do believe that the issue of global warming has been politicized. I
think there are a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated
data so that they will have dollars rolling in to their — to their
projects,” Perry said Wednesday.
“I think we’re seeing almost weekly or even daily scientists who are
coming forward and questioning the original idea that man-made global
warming is what is causing the climate to change.”
Huntsman also garnered attention Thursday with the release of a profile
in Vogue magazine that painted the former governor as “smooth” and
“cosmopolitan.”
