Poll: Majority back passage of tax plan

Most of the Democrats, Republicans and independents asked in the poll back the agreement, which House Democrats oppose and have said they won't bring to the floor.

Of the 54 percent of all Americans support an extension of all the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts for all taxpayers, 85 percent of Republicans support the move, while only 38 percent of Democrats and 31 percent of liberal Democrats, agree. Among independents, 49 percent back the full extension, whereas 46 percent oppose it.

The telephone poll was conducted Dec. 9 to 12 among 1,001 randomly selected adults. Results from the full poll have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
