Treasury taps Justice Department official to head financial crimes unit

Since its creation in 1990, FinCEN has been charged with monitoring and pursuing a range of illicit financial activity, including money laundering and terrorist financing. Shasky Calvery comes to the Treasury from the Justice Department, where she has headed its asset forfeiture and money laundering team since 2010. 

A 15-year veteran of the department, she also worked as a prosecutor pursuing organized crime and racketeering charges, particularly money laundering tied to those illicit activities.
