Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) took to Twitter on Tuesday night to defend herself against an attack ad that portrayed her as a Soviet-style dictator.

“So… Can we talk about that ad that just ran during the #GOPDebate where I look like a Commie dictator?” Warren tweeted.

{mosads}The TV commercial, which aired during the Republican debate hosted by Fox Business Network and The Wall Street Journal, included red banners with images of Warren and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) chief Richard Cordray. They hang above desks with workers rhythmically stamping documents.

“They call it CFPB,” a deep, ominous voice says.

The ad goes on to say that the agency, which Warren largely designed, is crushing American workers under a weight of oppressive bureaucracy.

Warren went on a Twitter spree to defend herself and the bureau.

“Wall Street has a problem,” she said. “They know the @CFPB is working, & it’s incredibly popular with the families it helps.”

She said the CFPB had forced the big financial companies to return billions of dollars to people “they cheated” on credit cards and mortgages.

“Thousands of dollars on a TV ad is nothing compared to the money the big banks save if their GOP buddies go after the @CFPB,” Warren added.
