President Trump in a tweet on Sunday stressed his promised wall as the key to border security, saying “drones and all of the rest are wonderful and lots of fun.”

“The only way to stop drugs, gangs, human trafficking, criminal elements and much else from coming into our Country is with a Wall or Barrier,” he said.

“Drones and all of the rest are wonderful and lots of fun, but it is only a good old fashioned Wall that works!”

{mosads}The tweet came on the second day of a partial government shutdown, after Congress missed a midnight funding deadline on Friday.

Lawmakers are warning they believe roughly a quarter of the government could remain shuttered well into the week.

Congressional leadership and the Trump administration are locked in negotiations about border funding — the major snag for the spending talks.

But there are no signs the White House and congressional Democrats are close to agreeing on a number that could pass both chambers and garner the president’s signature.

A senior administration official said on Saturday that the White House is standing by its demand for $5 billion in physical barriers and declined to “negotiate over the phone” when pressed on figures below the amount.
