Carried interest is a contender to pay for tax extenders

The legislation now rests with Ways and Means Chairman Sandy Levin (D-Mich.), who is looking at new ways to pay for the bill.

Levin has said recently that Senate resistance to ending carried interest makes it difficult for him to use it as an offset on extenders. But he is an ardent supporter for ending the loophole and has introduced legislation several times that accomplishes this feat.

It is not clear when Levin will make his bill public.
