President Obama on Thursday accused Republicans and conservative political groups of spreading “misinformation” about the Affordable Care Act and its implementation.

{mosads}”There’s been a lot of misinformation, most of it political, paid for by either the Republican Party, or various conservative groups,” Obama said during a radio appearance on the “Yolanda Adams Show.” 

“But the truth is the Affordable Care Act, ObamaCare, is real straight forward. If you’re already on Medicare, if you’re on Medicaid, if your employer provides you with health insurance, you don’t have to do anything.”

Obama’s remarks come as a new poll shows that 44 percent of Americans are confused about whether his signature healthcare reform remains the law of the land

With just over a month before open enrollment in the insurance exchanges created under the ACA, a poll released Wednesday by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that 62 percent of uninsured Americans say they don’t have enough information about the health law.

Of all Americans, 51 percent say they don’t know how the law will affect them or their family.

But even more troubling for the White House, 44 percent of those surveyed said they they either didn’t know the current status of the health law, or believed it had been overturned by Congress or the Supreme Court.

In the interview, Obama urged the uninsured to go to a federal website that explains how they can purchase insurance, touting that in “a whole bunch of states people may be able to get health insurance for less than their monthly cellphone bill.” 

“All they need to do is just go and see what this thing offers, the same way that if they’re buying a plane ticket they just go on the Internet and check it out,” Obama said.

Obama said women, in particular, should investigate their insurance options, noting that plans on the exchange would offer free contraception that “can almost pay for itself for a lot of folks.”

He also said that mothers were “the anchor that holds the whole family together” and that women “are more likely to be in jobs that may not offer good benefits.”

“This is a way for women to be able to say, you know what, I will always have that security, I’ll always have that protection. I’m not going to lose everything I have if heaven forbid something happens to me,” Obama said.
