Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is calling for GOP senators to hold public hearings on their healthcare bill during a delay caused by a key Republican senator’s surgery.

“Here’s a radical idea : use the time that Sen. McCain is gone to hold a public hearing on your latest health care repeal bill,” Durbin tweeted.

“Call [the Congressional Budget Office] and experts from both sides to testify before we vote. : what do you have to fear?”

{mosads}Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced Saturday that the Senate would delay its consideration of the healthcare bill while Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) recovers from surgery.

“While John is recovering, the Senate will continue our work on legislative items and nominations and will defer consideration of the Better Care Act,” McConnell said in a statement.

Two GOP senators — Rand Paul (Ky.) and Susan Collins (Maine) — have already come out against the revised healthcare legislation.

This is the second time McConnell has had to put off Senate consideration of the ObamaCare repeal bill.
