CVS Health on Tuesday announced it will expand its HealthHUB concept to 1,500 stores by 2021.

HealthHUBs offer more services than traditional CVS pharmacies, including expanded health clinics with a lab for blood testing and health screening.

The stores also feature wellness rooms for yoga and seminars and offer on-scene dietitians and respiratory specialists.

The initiative to further develop its stores is part of CVS's $70 billion acquisition of health insurer Aetna.

"Our goal is to fundamentally transform the consumer health experience for the millions of Americans we interact with every day, while creating value for our patients, members, partners, and shareholders," Larry Merlo, CVS Health CEO, said in a statement. "We have combined with Aetna to build a powerful and unique business model that will guide our journey to becoming the most consumer-centric health company."

Three HealthHUB concept stores were opened in Houston this February as a pilot program.

CVS will open additional HealthHUBs in the HoustonAtlantaPhiladelphia and Tampa, Fla., areas this year.
