Obama administration freezes assets of drug gang MS-13

“This action positions us to target the associates and financial networks supporting MS-13, and gives law enforcement an additional tool in its efforts to disrupt MS-13’s activities.”

The designation bans Americans from ever making economic transactions with MS-13, freezes any U.S. assets the group possesses and blocks any property interests. It is part of a multi-agency offensive against the group.

The Homeland Security Department's Investigations National Gang Unit is taking the law enforcement lead. The unit develops intelligence on gang operations, according to the department, and works to dismantle such organizations from the base up.
