Freshman war veteran promoted on House foreign affairs panel

Collins served for two years as a Navy-Chaplain in the 1980s and joined the Air Force Reserve Command after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He holds the rank of Major-Chaplain.

“I am pleased to name Congressman Doug Collins as Vice Chair of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee,” Royce said. “North Africa is home to a large and growing radical movement, the situation in Syria continues to deteriorate and Iran advances its march towards nuclear weapons. Congressman Collins’ military background and expertise will be invaluable resources as the Committee addresses these security threats and the new governments emerging in a rapidly changing Middle East.”
