Defense bill presses Pentagon on lessons learned from Benghazi failures


In particular, the bill would require DoD to report on the continued requirement for “forward basing,” the practice of using airfields in support of tactical operations in Europe and Africa without the need to put in place full support facilities. The bill in particular requests an update on such installations in Europe, where the U.S. military is greatly shrinking its footprint.

The Armed Services Committee released its FY2014 National Defense Authorization Act on Monday. The panel will mark up the 426-page, $638 billion bill on Wednesday.
