U.S. lawmakers remain concerned about dragging the United States into another Middle East conflict, however. On Thursday, the House passed by voice vote legislation barring a military intervention in Syria without congressional approval, in keeping with current law.

“What we are saying is, Mr. President, if you want to go to war, come to us,” said amendment sponsor Trey Radel (R-Fla.).
