London’s Metropolitan Police Department said a man who drove into pedestrians outside of a London mosque Sunday night has been charged and is in custody.

The 47-year-old suspect has been charged with the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism and attempted murder.

The attack, which took place during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, killed one person and injured a number of other pedestrians as they left a mosque.

British Prime Minister Theresa May and London Mayor Sadiq Khan both condemned the attack on Monday.

“Today we come together, as we have done before, to condemn this act, and to state once again to say that hatred and evil of this kind will never succeed,” May said during a news conference.

"This is a truly horrific terrorist attack on our city that deliberately targeted innocent Londoners,” Khan told the BBC.
