Trump has set a May 12 deadline for deciding whether to withdraw from the Obama-era multinational agreement, which provides Iran with sanctions relief in exchange for curbing its nuclear program.

He has long railed against the pact, calling it "one of the worst deals I have ever witnessed."

Trump disavowed the deal last October, but stopped short of withdrawing the U.S. from it. Instead, he demanded that negotiators fix what he has deemed as holes in the agreement.

Rouhani on Sunday also said the U.S. would make a “mistake” if it exits the accord, Reuters reported.
