The U.S. obtained intelligence that the son of Osama bin Laden, Hamza bin Laden, is dead, NBC News reported Wednesday.

The three U.S. officials who spoke with the outlet could not provide additional information about where or when Hamza bin Laden died.

Osama bin Laden's son, long thought to be his successor, last made a public statement in 2018.

The video, released by al Qaeda's media arm, included threats to Saudi Arabia and a call to revolution, according to the United Nations

According to the international body, Hamza bin Laden had been given a prominent role in al Qaeda, the group behind the September 11th attacks.

U.S. Navy SEALS killed Osama bin Laden, who led al Qaeda, in 2011 during a raid on his Abbottabad, Pakistan, compound.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Hamza bin Laden from The Hill.
