At least 20 people are dead after a suicide truck bomb devastated a hospital in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, The Associated Press reported.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, which also reportedly left 97 injured.

The insurgent group has carried out almost daily bombings since peace negotiations with the U.S. faltered earlier this month.

The Taliban is expected to continue to ratchet up attacks around the country and have refused to discuss a cease-fire with Afghan officials.

A separate deadly drone attack in eastern Afghanistan was linked to U.S. forces on Thursday.

The attack in Nangarhar killed at least 16 people and wounded dozens of others, mostly civilians, said Jawaid Zaman, presidential adviser on tribal affairs, according to the AP.

The U.S. forces in Afghanistan said they carried out a strike in the area targeting Islamic State positions.

“We are aware of allegations of the death of non-combatants and are working with local officials to determine the facts,” Col. Sonny Legget, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, told the AP.
