Russia reported 9,623 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, marking the highest one-day increase in cases, according to Reuters.

Russia now has a total of 124,054 cases, predominantly centered around Moscow. Another 57 people died Saturday, bringing the country's death toll to 1,222. Though Russia has lower figures that other large countries, it has yet to reach a plateau or downward curve in new cases.

Russia has been in partial lockdown since March. In Moscow, citizens are required to show travel permits to prove they are essential workers and allowed to move freely.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

Putin signed a decree Thursday appointing First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov as acting prime minister while Mishustin self-isolates and temporarily steps back from his duties.
