North Korea says it is prepared to defend itself against "reckless acts of aggression" from the United States.

The country’s foreign ministry said after the deployment of a U.S. Navy strike to the Korean Peninsula that “reckless moves for invading” are now in a “serious phase,” USA Today reported.

"We will hold the U.S wholly accountable for the catastrophic consequences to be entailed by its outrageous actions,” said the foreign ministry.

The U.S. Navy on Saturday said it was moving the strike group toward the Korean Peninsula in response to concerns over North Korean aggression.

“The [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] is ready to react to any mode of war desired by the US," the ministry said on Monday.
