A 40-year-old man with the surname Yu attacked the students at about 8 a.m. local time, killing eight and injuring two others. He is now in police custody.

The slain students’ ages are not known, though elementary school students in China typically range from 6 to 13 years old, CNN reports. The injuries sustained by students is also not yet known.

The local government is reportedly providing psychological counseling services to students who witnessed or were injured in the attack, CNN reports, citing a state-run tabloid.

The incident comes after at least 14 children were slashed by a woman with a kitchen knife at a kindergarten last October in Chongqing.
