Austrian foreign ministry fighting 'serious cyberattack'

The Austrian foreign ministry said Sunday it is fighting a “serious cyberattack” on its IT systems.

The ministry announced the attack in a statement, according to The Associated Press

“Due to the severity of nature of the attack,” the ministry reportedly said “it cannot be ruled out that this is a targeted attack by a state actor.”

The attack was swiftly discovered and “counter measured were immediately put in place,” the ministry reportedly said.

The ministry noted other European countries have been hit by “similar attacks,” without elaborating, according to AP.

The attacks began Saturday, AP reported, citing Austrian media.
