Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Sunday condemned what he said were U.S. attempts to oust Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

During a meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza in Russia, Lavrov urged the U.S. not to go through with its “irresponsible” plans, Reuters reported.

Pompeo said Sunday that the U.S. has a "full range of options" including diplomatic and military solutions to deal with the political turmoil in Venezuela.

President  Trump has also said that many options are on the table.

The conflict in the Latin American nation escalated last week when opposition leader Juan Guaidó, whom the U.S. has recognized as the country's interim president, unsuccessfully attempted to enlist the military in forcing Maduro out of power.

The State Department pointed to Pompeo's remarks on Venezuela earlier Sunday and said it would have no further comments on Lavrov's condemnation.
