"China is DREAMING that Sleepy Joe Biden, or any of the others, gets elected in 2020. They LOVE ripping off America!" Trump tweeted.

Trump has expressed similar sentiments before, claiming earlier in May that the Chinese had attempted to renegotiate a trade deal in hopes that they would have the opportunity to resume negotiations with former Vice President Joe Biden or another Democrat.

Biden, who formally announced his campaign for the presidency on April 25, said recently that China is “not competition for us,” saying “China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man,” at an Iowa campaign stop earlier this month.

China/U.S. negotiations broke down last week after Chinese representatives reportedly backtracked on promises to address issues like theft of intellectual property, after which the U.S. announced an increase of Chinese tariffs from 10 percent to 25 percent on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports. Trump sought to assuage concerns about the ongoing trade war, tweeting Sunday that “we are right where we want to be with China.”

“Remember, they broke the deal with us & tried to renegotiate,” Trump added in the Sunday tweets.
