Franken suggests Google-Verizon deal leaves gap for future Internet use

Franken also discussed his concerns over the proposed merger of Comcast and NBC Universal. 

"My fear is if Comcast, which is the largest cable provider and the third largest Internet service provider and the largest landline service provider [merged], why aren't Verizon and AT&T going to say, 'Ya know what? We've got to buy ABC, we've got to buy NBC.' "

Such consolidation could be a problem, he said.

"[Y]ou'd have a few companies, four companies, controlling almost all the information that everyone gets. … If that were allowed to happen, 'Katy bar the door.' "
