Rep. Darrell Issa, the incoming chairman of the House Oversight Committee, hosted a contest this week asking Twitter users to write the caption for an oversight-themed holiday card.
The card features a picture of the Capitol Building with dollars signs around it. Terry Transparency, Issa's stick figure oversight sidekick, stands by with a look of exasperation. "Happy holidays?" the card says. (View the picture here).
Issa asked Twitter users to provide a caption for the picture, and on Tuesday he picked the winners. Among the honorees:
- "All we want for Christmas is a short-term CR--and big spending cuts!"
- "Earmarks make lousy stocking stuffers. Next year, we'd rather have coal."
- "Deck the halls with spending folly…fa la la la la…la la ka-ching!"
A sincere and straightforward caption was also named a winner: "Please restore American faith and trust in government. That is the best gift you can give us."
