Telecom doubleheader scheduled for Feb. 16

House Republicans and Senate Democrats have scheduled the two biggest telecom hearings of the month on the same day.

The House Communications subcommittee and the Senate Commerce Committee will both discuss telecom issues Feb. 16, according to industry sources.

The topics are net-neutrality regulations and spectrum legislation, respectively.

House Communications subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) wants to abolish the net-neutrality regulations imposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in December. Senate Commerce Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va) wants to discuss his comprehensive spectrum legislation.

UPDATE: Feb. 16 could actually bring three tech/telecom hearings. Public Knowledge President Gigi Sohn notes that there is also a potential Senate Judiciary hearing on the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA), a controversial IP bill.

Can Congress squeeze more tech and telecom into Feb. 16? House Judiciary, it's your move.
