Rep. Rush to reintroduce privacy bill next week

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) will reintroduce his online privacy legislation next week, his spokesperson confirmed to The Hill.

He garnered qualified support from Intel, eBay and Microsoft last year, while a competing bill was drafted by Reps. Rick Boucher (D-Va.) and Cliff Stearns (D-Fla). Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) also promised a bill focused on protecting children.

The question of which GOP member will take the lead on privacy this year is still up in the air. Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) circulated a "dear colleague" pledging to focus on the issue, while Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) is co-chairman of the privacy caucus.
