Report: Apple begins production on iPad 2.0

Apple has begun manufacturing the next generation of its iPad tablet computer with a built-in camera and a faster processor, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

According to the report, the new iPad will be thinner and lighter than the current model and is expected to debut over the next few months. Users wishing to purchase mobile broadband plans will likely be limited to either Verizon Wireless or AT&T.

Since introducing the device last April, Apple has sold almost 15 million iPads, even as an ecosystem of games, applications and online publications has sprung up around the platform. For the recently ended fourth quarter, the iPad made up 17 percent of Apple's revenue.
