Website claims to have hacked first lady’s financial records

The FBI and Secret Service are investigating a website that says it has hacked the first lady’s personal and financial information.

The website claims to have posted information on Michelle Obama, Vice President Biden and other government officials as well as several celebrities, including Kim Kardashian.

{mosads}The website said it had posted Social Security numbers, credit reports, home addresses and personal banking information, although the veracity of the information has not been confirmed.

Brian Leary, a spokesman for the Secret Service, said the agency is investigating the matter, but would not comment further. The FBI is also conducting an investigation, according to spokeswoman Jenny Shearer.

In addition to Obama and Biden, the website claimed to reveal sensitive information for Attorney General Eric Holder, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, FBI Director Robert Mueller, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a handful of celebrities, including Kardashian, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Ashton Kutcher, Donald Trump, Hulk Hogan, Mel Gibson and Britney Spears.

The sensitive information could be used to steal a person’s identity and commit financial fraud.

Sara Faden, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department, confirmed that the information posted on the site about Police Chief Charles Beck was accurate.

She said it is not the first time the police chief has had his personal information hacked, and that the department is working with the FBI to track down the hackers.

The site lists three phone numbers for Obama. The first belongs to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where the first lady used to work. The second was disconnected, and the third had a generic answering machine.

The phone number listed for Biden on the site now belongs to Delaware Seed and Garden Supply, a small business in Wilmington. The owner, Tam Downs, told The Hill she obtained the phone number about two years ago. She said when they first got the phone line, they received occasional calls from news organizations and others looking to contact Biden.

She said those calls had died down until Monday, when the website posted the alleged personal information, and that they are now inundated by pranksters and people looking to speak to the vice president.

“I guess they just got an old number,” Downs said.

The website’s domain name ending was originally created for the Soviet Union and is still in use by some Russian websites today. The site has an affiliated Twitter account with two posts, both in Russian.

The site posted unflattering pictures of many of the celebrities, except for Obama.

“Blame your husband, we still love you, Michelle. <3,” the alleged hackers wrote.
