Report: 150K Gmail accounts accidentally deleted

Up to 150,000 users of Google's popular Gmail service woke up Monday to find their accounts deleted, according to various reports.

Users reported being unable to log in Monday morning. When they were finally able to access their accounts, they found years of messages and chats deleted.

Google spokesman Andrew Kovacs tweeted Monday afternoon that the issues had only affected 0.02 percent of users — not 0.08 percent as reported earlier. That puts the total number of affected accounts closer to 37,500.

Kovacs said a third of affected users have had their access restored, and said the remaining accounts would all be up within 12 hours.
