Report: Twitter worth $8 billion

Social-media site Twitter is worth $8 billion, the company's CEO Dick Costolo said Tuesday in San Francisco, Business Insider reports.

Costolo said the site now handles 250 million tweets every day, up from 100 million per day at the beginning of the year. It took more than three years to reach its 1 billionth tweet.

Twitter was founded in 2006. There are now more than 100 million Twitter users, about half of whom log in every day.

Costolo also said the company is considering paying users who regularly post interesting content, The Wall Street Journal reports. He said Twitter wouldn't pay for each tweet but might work with "a narrow set of publishers."
