News bites: Government grants Amazon cloud security clearance

Yahoo's purchase of Tumblr shows it's making a bet on a different form of social media, where people create personal content, according to The New York Times.

The government has granted Amazon a security clearance that will make it easier for agencies to use its cloud computing services, Reuters reports. 

Many highflying Web startups that have high valuations, but struggle to make money, won't be as lucky as Tumbr, The Wall Street Journal says. 


Dish Network Corp Chairman Charlie Ergen made a $2 billion bid for LightSquared's radio frequencies, Bloomberg reports.

Sprint said it has entered negotiations with Dish Network Corp about its bid for the wireless carrier, according to The Wall Street Journal.
