Study: Cellphone Internet users have doubled since 2009

One-third of those mobile Internet users go online mostly using their cellphones as opposed to desktop computers, the researchers said. Young adults, non-whites and people with low incomes are more likely to go online mostly with their phones.

Wireless carriers argue that they need access to more airwaves to meet the skyrocketing demand for mobile data. The Federal Communications Commission is preparing to buyback the broadcast licenses of some TV stations for auction to the wireless carriers.

Lawmakers have also been examining whether the federal government could use its spectrum more efficiently to free up more bandwidth for the private sector.
