Federal contractor database opens for business today
The implementation of the law was finalized in March, and the database will be open for use starting today. Contractors are required to disclose any civil or administrative proceedings they are involved in and also must update their profiles every six months throughout the duration of a contract.
Pooling data into a single database accessible across agencies has been a theme of several initiatives spearheaded by both Democrats in Congress and the Obama administration–especially when it comes to federal contracts.
Last June, for example, federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra launched the IT Dashboard, showing the performance of major IT contracts in every department. That database is public, however.
