Delta Airlines under fire for World Cup tweet

Delta Airlines is being criticized for sending a controversial tweet congratulating the United States soccer team for defeating Ghana in the World Cup. 

The tweet included a graphic containing the final score of the game that used a picture of the Statue of Liberty to represent the U.S. team and a giraffe to represent Ghana. 

Twitter uses accused the airline of being racially insensitive, and Delta quickly deleted the tweet and followed up with an apology post. 


“We're sorry for our choice of photo in our previous tweet," the company tweeted. "Best of luck to all teams."

The controversial tweet was later replaced with a message containing of a picture of soccer ball drawn onto a Delta napkin that contained the message “Go #USA! #USAvGHA #USMNT”
