Sen. Rockefeller: Foxx DOT nomination will move 'as soon as possible'

Rockefeller pushed hard for another rumored candidate for the Transportation post, National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Deborah Hersman.

He said Monday after the job went Foxx that the mayor "has established himself as a strong transportation advocate and shown the ability to move transportation infrastructure projects in Charlotte.

"He can be a driving force in the federal effort to take advantage of transportation opportunities," Rockefeller said of the new transportation secretary nominee.

For his part, Obama called for a quick Senate confirmation of Foxx during his remarks at the White House on Monday.

"I am absolutely confident that Anthony is going to do an outstanding job," Obama said. "And I hope that the Senate confirms him quickly because we’ve got a lot of work to do."
