Amtrak vows to keep operating if government shuts down


"Amtrak will continue normal operation of its national intercity and high-speed passenger rail network in the event of a short-term federal government shutdown," the company said. "Passengers planning to travel on Amtrak trains in the Northeast Corridor and across the country in the coming days and weeks can be assured that Amtrak will remain open for business."

The House has passed a second bill tying continued funding for the government to a delay in President Obama's healthcare law. The Senate, which stripped the language from the first House bill, is scheduled to convene at 2 p.m. Monday, leaving only hours for a potential resolution to be reached.
