White House reviewing new efficiency standards for ceiling fans

The Obama administration is expected to issue new efficiency standards for ceiling fans.

The Department of Energy sent the ceiling fan rules to the White House’s Office of Management and Budget this week for approval. The OMB has the final say on all major rules.

It’s unclear what efficiency requirements will be included in the final rule.

As proposed, the energy conservation standards would cost industry as much as $166 million to comply with, but they could also save consumers $2.7 billion in energy bills.

The Energy Department says the ceiling fan rules would also have “significant environmental benefits."
