The Labor Department is looking to crack down on discrimination against transgender people in the workplace.

The department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced Monday it is forming an alliance with the National Center for Transgender Equality.

As part of the alliance, OSHA plans to issue guidance to improve the safety and health of transgender workers.

“The alliance will focus on sharing information on OSHA initiatives, workers’ rights and employer responsibilities and other safety and health information,” the agency wrote.

According to the National Transgender Discrimination Survey, 55 percent of transgender workers say they have lost a job because of bias. Twenty-two percent of transgender people say they have been denied access to a “gender-appropriate” restroom at work.
