RESPONSIBILITIES

The Digital Strategist and Grassroots Director will be a senior member of the Corporate Communications Department, responsible for driving the strategy and execution of DraftKings’ grassroots advocacy campaigns.

The Digital Strategist and Grassroots Director will harness the passion and loyalty that DraftKings’ customers have for playing daily fantasy sports into a groundswell of advocacy to support the passage of DFS legislation.

The successful candidate will excel in developing cross-channel digital campaigns that include email strategy and segmentation, social media and content development. She / he will be an expert in channel management, message formation, content curation, digital advocacy advertising, audience building, community management and analytics.

This position supervises a Manager of Grassroots, reports to the Sr. VP of Corporate Communications and can be based in Washington, D.C. or Boston. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Build and grow a base of DFS advocates, anchored by DK customers, across the country and in key state legislative districts that will email, post, call, write and testify on behalf of DK’s legislative priorities.
  • Design and execute complex segmentation techniques to galvanize audiences and guide them up the ladder of engagement.
  • Create compelling written, social and multi-media content that inspires action, sharing and deep buy-in which can be sustained for multiple campaigns.
  • Deftly and efficiently manage both paid and owned channels.
  • Execute rapid response campaigns to quickly mobilize DK advocates when needed.
  • Connect the dots on and offline by cultivating relationships with like-minded individuals, activists and organizations (including think tanks and consumer groups) to amplify our grassroots activities.
  • Initiate and manage editorial calendar, tied to legislative calendars with long lead times.
  • Analyze results and metrics, such as website traffic, online recruitment, email activation rates, social media engagement and quickly adapt to enhance results.
  • Work hand in glove with the Government Relations, CRM and Social Media teams to align targets, timing and tone to maximize impact.
  • Manage the communications section of the DK web site and the DraftKingsNews Twitter account, along with analyzing the need for additional web and social properties and developing those properties.

  • 8+ years total experience in political digital strategy and grassroots activation on a national level, preferably for a presidential campaign.
  • Strong understanding of the legislative process and experience running issue-oriented campaigns.
  • Superb writing and editing skills.
  • Comfortable working directly with senior executives and telling them when they are wrong.
  • Experience managing multiple agency relationships.
  • Exceptional project management skills and the ability to structure and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and drive to completion, often with short deadlines.
  • Approaches everything with drive, urgency and energy. Ability to work well under pressure, achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and to thrive under deadlines.
