NAMI currently has an opening for a Coordinator on its Advocacy & Public Policy team. This position will be responsible for supporting the work of the Advocacy & Public Policy team by providing project management for major initiatives and administrative assistance for meetings, events and outreach to NAMI advocates, affiliates and state organizations.


This is an opportunity for a motivated professional to join a dynamic policy team committed to making a difference in the lives of people with mental health conditions. This role will offer an opportunity to learn more about the issues and initiatives that NAMI is working on to address the injustices faced by people with mental illness and their families and help support and advance that work.


  • Provide project management support for advocacy and policy initiatives, including managing timelines, tasks and deliverables
  • Review and update web content on leading policy and advocacy issues and priorities
  • Provide logistical support for advocacy and policy-related meetings, events, webinars and advocate training programs
  • Coordinate and process requisitions, check requests, expense reports and invoices
  • Assist with scheduling, agendas and minutes for the policy team and Board Policy Committee
  • Assist with proofing, formatting and adding graphics into written and visual presentations and reports
  • Support development of tools and resources to support state organizations and grassroots advocates in policy and advocacy initiatives, including maintenance of online materials
  • Assist with ongoing communications and outreach to NAMI affiliates, state organizations and advocates
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1-3 years’ experience in relevant field preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer service orientation
  • Strong organizational skills and highly attentive to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work with website content management systems and learn new software programs and technology readily
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and across teams
  • Confident in responding to multiple demands in a fast paced, team environment
  • Self-motivated, self-managing and self-confident
  • Skilled in developing graphically attractive documents and presentations
  • Interested in mental health policy and advocacy
