Public Policy Associate

The National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders (NALCAB) represents and serves 100+ nonprofit organizations across the nation, which includes real estate developers, business lenders, economic development corporations, credit unions, and consumer counseling agencies. NALCAB implements responsible, market-based strategies for strengthening underserved communities, rebuilding the ladder of economic mobility for low- and moderate-income Americans and supporting the economic integration of immigrants through equitable neighborhood development, investing in small business and building family financial wellness. In close alignment with its core programmatic activities, NALCAB operates a fellowship to invest in next-generation leadership within its Network, hosts a national conference and implements a training institute focused on culturally and linguistically relevant asset building services.

Summary
The Public Policy Associate will work with the Federal Affairs team in Washington, DC to advance NALCAB’s policy agenda and advocacy efforts including NALCAB’s annual Advocacy Day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Including the following.
• Track and analyze relevant legislation that affect small business, community lending, consumer finance, housing, community development, and other policies related to asset-building
• Draft policy briefs, webinars, and case studies and other material to inform NALCAB members in listed key priority areas
• Assist in advocacy efforts with government representatives, federal agencies, and others with an emphasis on the U.S. Congress and the Administration including coordinating relevant meetings
• Assist in the dissemination of NALCAB’s policy priorities through social media and the publication of NALCAB’s daily Notable News to its members
• Support the operation of NALCAB’s policy committee including but not limited to scheduling, development of the agenda, and summary notes
• Draft correspondence, comment letters, memos, and blogs relating to NALCAB’s policy agenda
• Represent NALCAB policy priorities at relevant meetings and coalitions
• Assist NALCAB staff in developing and organizing policy-related conference sessions
• Other related office or administrative duties as assigned.

• Minimum bachelor’s degree required preferably in public policy, urban planning, political science or related field
• Capitol Hill or related non-profit experience preferred
• Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills
• Good social media skills desirable
