LJAF’s Health Care Drug Prices portfolio aims to strike a balance between incentives to develop innovative drugs and biologics and affordability for governments, businesses, and households. LJAF is seeking to add a dynamic senior-level team member to help us advance our work in this area. The new director will be responsible for developing a research, policy, and technical assistance strategy to affect change at the federal and state levels. The full continuum of drug pricing issues – innovation incentives, patents and marketing exclusivities, value-based prices, payment models, and patient access – are to be addressed by the portfolio. This individual will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and pursuing new, high-leverage philanthropic opportunities, as well as managing current investments. The director will report directly to the Vice President of Health Care.

Core Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with LJAF’s Board of Directors and Vice President of Health Care to refine LJAF’s drug prices strategy
• Identify, research, and evaluate new, high-leverage philanthropic opportunities to transform drug pricing policy at the federal and state levels
• Develop, present and make charitable investment/grant recommendations to LJAF’s Board
• Execute and manage charitable investments approved by LJAF’s Board, which will include working with grantees to develop strategic plans, establishing performance metrics, and monitoring the performance of grantees
• Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders, experts, and new and existing grantees
• Collaborate with LJAF staff to explore and develop cross-initiative charitable investment opportunities

Essential Skills, Experience, and Abilities:
• Senior-level, with an appropriate combination of practical experience with: patent, exclusivity, and FDA issues; commercial and public payment issues; value-based pricing issues; supply chain issues; and patient access issues
• Experience with federal or state policy-making processes
• Proven ability to design innovative strategies for positive and sustainable reforms and to implement government systems change
• Effective leadership and management skills
• Strategic, entrepreneurial approach to developing ideas and designing solutions
• Creativity and rigor in finding answers to complex problems
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to understand technical and theoretical concepts
• Capacity to effectively prioritize projects, work simultaneously on multiple ventures, and meet deadlines

Required Education:
• Advanced degree(s) in economics, public policy, or a related field
• At least eight years of health policy experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
