JOB TITLE: Administrative Assistant

About the National Shooting Sports Foundation:

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 13,000 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen's organizations and publishers. NSSF is headquartered in CT and operates a government affairs office in Washington, DC.


Serve as assistant to SVP/GC. Provide logistical and administrative support to various members of the Government Relations, Public Affairs and Legal Department.


• Serve as assistant to SVP/GC in performing a broad scope of administrative support duties including but not limited to:

o Coordinate travel details and maintain busy calendar and travel schedule.

o Screen incoming calls and respond to or direct as necessary.

o Prepare written correspondence as needed.

o Schedule and calendar regular meetings as needed.

o Prepare drafts of documents, e.g. meeting minutes.

• Support government and public affairs team including scheduling meetings and preparing briefing materials for congressional staff meetings.

• Manage all administrative aspects of the Washington DC office, including interfacing with building management, ordering office supplies etc.

• Maintain legal, public affairs and government relations files and corporate records.

• Track key contract dates and deadlines.

• Responsible for several mail projects/campaigns, e.g. NSSF YIR, Economic Impact Report, and Project ChildSafe.

• Serve as backup administrator on the Board Portal.


• Assist with other unexpected or temporary projects that may arise.

• Run errands to local businesses and establishments as needed, e.g. post office, FedEx, catering.

• Other duties as assigned.


• Minimum 5 years of experience in an executive support role in a government relations or legal office.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Exceptional aptitude for accuracy and detail.

• High degree of proficiency in arranging travel and associated details.

• Demonstrated high level of proficiency with all current Microsoft Windows applications and MS office suite products.

• Solid knowledge of English grammar, syntax and spelling and proofreading capabilities.

• Excellent organizational and calendar management skills.

• Highly motivated self-starter, and able to work independently on a wide variety of projects simultaneously.

• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills essential.

• Proven track record of managing responsibilities in a discreet and highly confidential manner.

• Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with others.

• Must possess a valid drivers license.
