Senior Director of Strategic Communications

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is seeking a Senior Director of Strategic Communications to lead the development and implementation of integrated communications campaigns as part of advocacy efforts promoting the adoption of public policies to reverse the youth e-cigarette epidemic. The communications campaigns will educate key audiences about the youth e-cigarette epidemic and mobilize support for public policies to address it. Candidates should have significant experience in successfully managing multifaceted communications campaigns involving advertising, earned media, digital/social media and other components. The senior director should be a strong strategist, writer and manager of projects, teams and outside vendors.

This position is located in Washington D.C. and reports to the Vice President of Communications.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of integrated communications campaigns involving advertising, earned media, digital/social media and other components. Work with Vice President of Communications and internal and external stakeholders to develop strategic communications plans and manage staff teams and outside vendors in implementing them.

• Manage the work of advertising, earned media, digital and other vendors.

• Manage development of digital/social media strategy, marketing and content and supervise work of digital/social media team.

• Manage and contribute to the development, writing and editing of content needed for communications campaigns, including written content, videos, graphics and other content/assets.

• Coordinate projects and activities with other departments, partner organizations, external spokespeople/influencers and other stakeholders.

• Help plan and execute events such as press conferences, satellite media tours, media briefings and editorial board meetings.

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of tobacco control issues.

• Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Communications.


Qualifications

• Advanced communications/marketing experience, including experience developing and managing multifaceted communications campaigns; communications experience in a policy advocacy, political or government context a plus.

• Exceptional strategic planning and project/team management skills and ability to manage projects that are on time and within budget

• Excellent writing, editing and verbal communications skills, with the ability to distill complex information into compelling messages.

• Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

• Commitment to the issue of tobacco control.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
